John Adana says Thanks for Solidarity

By azadi, 2 August, 2010

John Adana

Because of the decision of the Härtefallkommission now I got a permission to stay in Germany for two years. When my permission was withdrawn on begin of this year and a date was fixed for my deportation I felt my world breaking down. I was much scared and afraid of the worst ideas, but I found sincerely friends on my side. I want to say heartily thanks for your help and solidarity.

I'm thanking The Caravan and The VOICE Refugee Forum for the fast mobilizing of so many helpers, who are committed in my case. Also thanks to the university of Göttingen, the university of Berlin and the university of Jena, where I found support in many ways.

Heartily thanks to the Flüchtlingsrat Thüringen and to the organization Pro Asyl, which were committed on me. I'm thanking the church of Waltershausen for the open minded discussion about the eventually option of church asylum. I'm thanking heartily all persons, who where behind my case and engaged on my behalf for example with countless letters and faxes, written respectively signed by them or persons who raised an issue of my case in other way. A special thank is for the members of the Thüringer Härtefallkommission, which made the decision in favor of me.

I want to use my “new won life” for solidarity to other people now. I want to tie in with the words of my speech on the Holzmarkt square in Jena at the Caravan-Festival. People from my country and foreigners living here need help and attention. We should not forget the people of Landkreis Gotha which have big problems. I want to be present for such people.

Especially I want to gain attention for people with a particular problem in my country Sierra Leone and other African countries. These are albinos who have no pigments, which are not only discriminated but often become victims of cruelty crimes. Three of my friends in Göttingen are building an organization for aiding and supporting these people to enable them to live free of fear and get benefit of equal rights. Please inform yourself about the Albino Savers Association Sierra Leone at: http://www.asasl.org
We want to undertake steps for working together. I'm planning to organize public events on this theme in Waltershausen, may be at the Inter Cultural Week in autumn, to make public this organization. This could happen on the role model of the masquerade at the Caravan-Festival in Jena. Those are ideas I'd like to talk about with all people, who could imagine to engage in such issues.

Heartily thanks again
John Adana
