FREE THE REFUGEES IN BERLIN

By kandolo, 15 October, 2012

The International MIGRANTS Alliance Europe section strongly condemns the police brutality of the German police against refugee-protesters and their advocates, and the arrest of about 30 of them, while holding a protest at the Nigerian embassy in Berlin, today October 15, 2012.

The refugees and their advocates are justly protesting the Nigerian government's role in the brutal deportations of African Refugees, and demand the cancellation of all deportation agreements with the German State.

The refugee-protesters have been holding a protest camp to “break the silence” on the continued violations of their rights as refugees by the German state and the continuing deportations.

The German police reportedly took away two cameras from the press team of the protestmarch/protestcamp and one tablet computer. One person was beaten. The arrested were taken to cells in Tempelhofer Damm. They were made to undergo identity control. Ten of those arrested of them are being held together in one cell, while others are reportedly being kept in single cells.

Police also used pepperspray on the activists protesting outside the Nigerian embassy in Berlin.

The IMA Europe section expresses its strong solidarity with the refugees and their advocates for their protest camp and protest at the Nigerian embassy in Berlin. Their demands and militant actions are just because their rights as refugees are wantonly violated and brutalized. We strongly demand the immediate release of those unjustly arrest, and an investigation into the use of brutal and unnecesary force by the German police.

Long live international solidarity!

Defend the rights of migrants and refugees amidst criminalization, detentions and deportations!
